He was that kind of brilliant mind that was tossed asunder and trampled over, today we'd like to think things would've gone different but I doubt it, greed is still in full force in the world unfortunately, and should he be reincarnated and given the ability to improve upon all our stations in life I would greatly accept it.
that was written by someone with no conception of the experimental work edison actually did perform. it wasn't just "selling light bulbs," it was creating a market for electricity in an era when people were sure it was recklessly unsafe to use compared to gas (!!!) and arranging an entire system of distribution that could be installed in entirety economically. that's a different kind of foresight, but it's still foresight.

Sure, but yknow, as far as fairytales go...its a good one, and not as un-true as the omissions of Tesla from history. Theres a lot of conspiracy and mystery surrounding his "free energy" theorys. If he was a raving madman, why was his house raided and all his notes seized by the FBI while his corpse was still warm?. We all know that if the idea of "free energy" was to exist...of course those who make their fortunes that depend on people paying for energy would do their best to make sure it was not publicised...and be in a much better position to do so. Sadly I can't prove any of this as much as you can...tho your conjecture is always appreciated as thought-provoking laa laa!(...in contrast to the idiot who scrolled through all this, presumably not reading a word TWICE to post "you're a dick")

I just made my 13yo read this ( the not on SG version) At first he was like..."but I'd rather be "liking " shit on Facebook"...but then he was all "this dude is awesome!!!" We should be teaching
our children about this man because our schools sure as hell aren't. Maybe its why they are idolsing this seasons vapid disposable attention whores they have the nerve to call "idols"...instead of people like this. ...Ok maybe not the part about being celibate... Shows how the rich and powerful few can write a truly great man out of
the history books to protect their own interests. Imagine where we would
be now as a race had things been different. :(
Thomas Edison kept a pet bear chained to a tree out front of his lab. What's left of the stump of the tree is in storage at Henry Ford Museum. They won't put it on display because he didn't exactly keep the bear well while it was alive. He's a total asshat. Even if only half the things Tesla supposedly did were true (earthquake machine, free energy, etc) he's still awesome. Plus, David Bowie never played Edison in a movie.

I think calling Nikola Tesla, the greatest mind that ever lived, a geek
is just ridiculous. I'd use an analogy to further elaborate my point but
no one will ever come close enough (in any field) to his status to be
compared with him. He was basically a god, sent to Earth to kickstart
the incredible progress we'we made in the last hundred years. He singlehandedly pulled us into the 20. and 21. century. He is the
single biggest benefactor humanity has ever had. A god, and should be celebrated as one. Edison is just some shmuck that had the honor of meeting him.

Was stuck in traffic up here in the East Bay about a month or two ago when this really cool looking car came on the road. Finally got up near it and found out it was a Tesla. Not sure how good a car it is but it certainly was impressive looking.

http://www.wired.com/science/discoveries/news/2008/01/dayintech_0104Regardless of any of his contributions, he was an asshole who really shouldn't be celebrated.
